Elijah & the Fire from Heaven
The True God Answers by Fire
The Story
1 Kings 18:16-45
Israel had been worshipping a fake god called Baal. The prophet Elijah challenged the 450 prophets of Baal to a contest on Mount Carmel to prove who the real God was.
The rules: each side would build an altar with a sacrifice, but put NO fire under it. Each would call on their god. Whoever answered by sending fire — THAT was the real God!
The Baal prophets danced and shouted all day. Nothing happened. But when Elijah stepped forward, he even soaked his altar with water THREE TIMES — and then prayed a simple prayer.
BOOM! Fire from heaven came down and burned up everything, even the water! The people fell on their faces and cried, 'The Lord is God!' God had proven beyond all doubt that He alone is real.
What Can We Learn?
One True God
There is only ONE God — and He proved it with fire from heaven! He is the one true God.
Stand Up for God
Elijah stood alone against 450 false prophets! It takes courage to stand for what is right.
Simple Prayers Are Powerful
Elijah prayed simply and honestly. God doesn't need fancy words — just a sincere heart.
Nothing Is Too Hard for God
Even soaking the altar in water couldn't stop God's fire. Nothing can limit God's power!
